Kauai Farmer’s Markets Part II

I’ve talked about Kauai farmer’s markets before, and I am here to tell you there is more to be shared! The Garden Island has plenty to give by way of local produce. Below, I’ve listed three more farmer’s markets that you should definitely visit while you’re here. This may be the cheapest (free!) and most enjoyable family activity on the island!

kauai-markets

The Coconut Marketplace Farmer’s Market:
Tuesdays & Thursdays 8:00 am – 12:00 pm, December 30, 2014 – April 14, 2015
Location: 4-484 Kuhio Highway, Kapaa, HI 96746 (map)
If you’re looking for the best array of local produce on the island, Coconut Marketplace is for you. Over 30 vendors show up to display their specialties. Visitors are welcome to browse and then sit down in open-air seating to enjoy what they find. Produce goes fast so show up early!

market-5

The Vidinha Market:
Fridays 3:00 – 5:00 pm, year-round
Location: Vidinha Stadium, Lihue, HI 96766 (map)
Part of the broader chain of Sunshine Markets, the Vidinha Market in Lihue combines Kauai’s local produce with another local treasure – our tropical flowers. Come to drink ice-cold coconut milk right out of the fruit or eat fresh mangoes and rambutan, then leave with a gift you can keep in your Villa to remind you of the exotic flora that surrounds you. The market begins when the whistle blows and, like at the Coconut Marketplace Market, produce will go quickly!

waipa-farmers-market

The Waipa Farmer’s Market:
Tuesdays 2:00 – 5:00 pm, year-round
Location: Waipa Foundation, 5-5785 Kuhio Hwy, Hanalei, HI 96714 (map)
Of all the farmer’s markets on the island, the Waipa Market wins the award for best backdrop. Set against the towering mountains in Hanalei, the market offers an experience that cannot be replicated. Vendors sell fresh produce along with native flowers and local crafts making this a well-rounded experience. Another benefit of attending this market is the pace. Either due to location or longer hours (3 vs. 2 hours), this market does not feel as rushed as the other Sunshine Markets. Yes, there will be a line at opening, but you don’t have to dash in. The leisurely pace and beautiful setting will have you transfixed. This is a must-attend.
