Po’ipū Beach Gets a Face-Lift

Po’ipū Beach is a favorite among Kauai tourists (not to mention among the local seals like myself) that enjoy the warm waters, beautiful views, and family-friendly atmosphere. It only makes sense, then, that Kauai County would take measures to preserve such a gem, which is exactly what they are doing this week. Scheduled this Wednesday, January 15th, the Kauai Department of Parks and Recreation will begin the process of replenishing the eroded sand bar above the high water line. Workers will be transferring 490 cubic yards of sand from the Kawailele Bird Sanctuary to Po’ipū Beach – what a project!IMG_2128 The sand has already been sifted through and deemed compatible with the sand at the beach. The process has involved multiple organizations including the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) Office of Coastal Land, County of Kaua’i, Po’ipū Beach Foundation, Po’ipū Beach Resort Association, and the University of Hawai’i Sea Grant College Program, and was funded by the Hawai’i Tourism Authority and the County of Kaua’i. Let’s just say there are a lot of people that care about Poipu Beach.

It means that Po’ipū Beach is all the more prepared to safely accommodate the groups of locals and tourists alike who are savvy enough to appreciate Kauai’s most enjoyable beach. Not to worry, us Kauaians have your best interest at heart – Po’ipū Beach will be in prime condition for a long, long time. So come and see the fun! This Wednesday, January 15th, Po’ipū Beach…I’ll see you there.
