Restaurant Review: Bubba’s Burgers – the perfect after-snorkel meal

Known as the Garden Island, Kauai has more to offer than just a sandy beach and sunshine. Our island is distinct from the other Hawaiian islands in its greenery and array of outdoor, recreational activities. It’s easy to spend the entire day outdoors hiking, surfing, kayaking, boogie-boarding, or snorkeling. As fun as these activities are, each is strenuous and will leave you with a hearty appetite. This is where Bubba’s Burger’s comes to the rescue. After a long day snorkeling in the ocean with your family, everyone is tired, and sandy, and salty…and hungry. Leaving the beach, nothing sounds better than a burger and fries – Kauaian style.

Bubba’s Burgers began in 1936 and has been serving big, juicy (not greasy) burgers ever since. Their menu is simple and relies on tasty ingredients. Bubba’s likes to serve their burgers the old-fashioned way…with mustard, ketchup, relish, and onions – a combination that’s worked for over 75 years. If you want to get creative, you can add chili, rice, or, my personal favorite, teriyaki sauce – it’s like Kauai on a bun. Add fries, onion rings, or a shake and make it a meal.

What makes Bubba’s special is the sass that comes along with your meal. All over the restaurant, you’ll see signs that read: “We cheat tourists, drunks, and attorneys” – a motto that doesn’t come without a story. At Bubba’s, what you see is what you get. No need to woo you over with formalities, the food speaks for itself. But don’t take my word for it. Check out the recommendations from these celebrities including Robert Downey Jr. who considers Bubba’s the “greatest burgers on earth.”

Lucky for you, Bubba’s has 3 locations around Kauai: Kapaa, Hanalei, and Poipu (convenient for our friends at the Villas at Poipu Kai) and is open 7 days a week 10:30 am – 8:00 pm.

So, stop in to Bubba’s! After a long hike or swim, there really is nothing better.
