Kauai Farmer’s Markets – a MUST see

IMG_1536_sFarmer’s markets on Kauai are hidden gems that most tourists don’t explore. As a Poipu Beach Seal, I make it a point to drop in on my friends every now and again (see our photo above). The food and company make the commute worth it. Below you’ll find the information on a few farmer’s markets on Kauai including: hours, addresses, and what is offered. Take the family! You’ll feel like a local.

Located at the Kapaa Ball Park on the east side of the island, right next to the coast, this farmer’s market is a real favorite. Local farmers drive in from all over the island to offer fresh Kauaian produce such as mangoes, apple bananas, the exotic rambutan fruit, and fresh coconuts that you can stick a straw in for a refreshing drink. Visitors will find fresh herbs and other products better priced than at the grocery store. Even for those not looking to buy anything, the atmosphere itself is reason to visit; it’s quite the adventure.
Hours: Every Wednesday 3:00-5:00 PM
Address: Kapaa Ball Park, 4670 Kahau Street HI

It’s no wonder Kauai Community Market was voted Kauai’s #1 Farmer’s Market by Midweek Kauai in 2012. The Community Market offers access to fresh, local produce you would hope for and expect at any farmer’s market. However, in addition, visitors can purchase ready-made food and meals such as poi, plate lunches, fresh juices, jam, local coffee, goat cheese, baked goods, etc. – all from local vendors. The Community Market also hosts classes and demonstrations to teach visitors about the food and how to grow and prepare it. Hosted at the Kauai Community College, it is no wonder that the Market’s model incorporates an appreciation for both food and education. See here for list of events.
Hours: Every Saturday (rain or shine) 9:30 AM – 1:00 PM
Address: Kauai Community College, 3-1901 Kaumualii Hwy

If you’re vacationing on the north shore or decide to spend the day around Hanalei Bay (a choice I highly recommend here), the Hanalei Farmer’s Market should not be missed. Approximately 50%-70% of the fresh, local produce is organic – proportionately large when compared to other markets. Visitors will also find vendors selling local crafts such as jewelry or body butter. For the all-around experience, this is the place. Arrive early! This market is very popular.
Hours: Every Saturday 9:30 AM – Noon
Address: Hanalei Neighborhood Center and Ballpark, 5299 Kuhio Hwy
