Beach Review: Kiahuna Beach

Kauai has so many beaches that it can be a challenge figuring out which one will best suit your preferences. While some of the beaches there are great for water sports and receive plenty of big waves, others have waters that are calm and perfect for relaxing and enjoying an easy day outdoors. Kiahuna Beach is somewhere in the middle There, you can enjoy the sunshine while having a picnic then go ride the waves or even swim in the calmer.

Kiahuna Beach, also known as Sheraton Beach, sits right in front of Kiahuna Plantation Condos on the South Side of Kauai. One of the best things about Kiahuna Beach is how suitable it is for different types of visitors. Parents can take their kids here to safely swim, beginning surfers can take a lesson, and advanced paddle boarders can have hours of fun. The beach contains a reef which protects waters and keeps them calm. This is the best area to be if you have children or are a novice swimmer. If you’re looking for a nice spot to let your toddler explore and wade around in the water, inside of the beach’s reef is ideal. Outside of the reef you’ll find waves suited for surfing, body boarding, and paddle boarding.

Snorkeling is another popular activity for visitors and locals alike, and there are plenty of species to see near the reef. The sunset and sunrise views at Kiahuna Beach are excellent. Overall, it’s a lovely place for an impromptu picnic or sunbathing session. If you plan to lounge on the sand, it’s best to bring a beach umbrella for shade when you need it. There’s virtually no natural shade on Kiahuna Beach, so being prepared will make for a more pleasurable trip.

Kiahuna Beach has a number of amenities including public restrooms and showers, although there is no lifeguard on duty. There’s a small amount of public parking, but you may find it easier to park at nearby Poipu Beach Park and take a short walk over. If you want to spend a nice day relishing Hawaii’s gorgeous weather and lounging in soft white sand, head to Kiahuna Beach the next time you’re in Kauai.
