As a year-round resident, I appreciate any effort people make to preserve the beauty of the Garden Island. Perhaps that’s why I love the Kauai Coastal Path so much – it allows locals and tourists to enjoy the beauty of the island without causing any damage to the surrounding area. Bring the kids and walk or bike along the path! You’ll enjoy stunning views of the shoreline and ocean – you may even run into a few local critters.
The Kauai Coastal Path is mild and relatively flat with a slow traffic of walkers and cyclists. One day, we hope it will extend from Lydgate Park along a 9-mile stretch to Kuna Bay. For now, start at Lydgate Park and enjoy the first few phases that meander along the Wailua Beach and the coast by Kapaa.

This week, celebrate Earth Day with the locals on April 19th. Join the Friends of Kamalani and Lydgate Park – a group of local Kauaian’s dedicated to creating family access to Kauai’s adventure by building an interactive playground, bridge, and pavillion at Lydgate Park. They will be applying layers or non-toxic sealant to the Kamalani Kai bridge. They will also be sprucing up the park. Be sure to stay and enjoy lunch with the group. You’ll feel like a local and leave knowing you have contributed to the beauty of the Garden Island you’ve doubtless enjoyed while on vacation.
