Honeymooning in Kauai, Hawaii

Kauai is arguably one of the best places to host your wedding party – in the humble opinion of your local Poipu Beach seal. What about after the wedding? Whether you celebrate your big day on the mainland or here with us, you should strongly consider Kauai as a romantic destination for your honeymoon. You and your new spouse will not be disappointed.

While honeymoons are ideal opportunities for relaxation and bonding, these two activities can be best accomplished by taking advantage of all the island has to offer. Living around the island, I’ve seen my fair share of honeymooners; some like to lounge, some like to be active, and some like to do a little of both. Either way, Kauai has something for you and I have a few suggestions to get your plans rolling.

Dinner in Kauai

For the foodies out there, Kauai has plenty to offer. If you and your love are looking for a romantic dinner, I would recommend and evening at the Beach House Restaurant. This renown eatery sits right on the coast near Poipu Beach and is well within a 20-30 minute drive from other major cities on the island such as Lihue, Hanapepe, Kapaa, and Waimea (directions). It boasts a delicious menu based on local cuisine and offerings. Start with their house-made ceviche or Omao arugula and goat cheese salad. Follow it up with a fresh Hawaiian catch cooked in macadamia nut butter or crusted with wasabi. You catch my drift – this place is fabulous. They even have vegan and gluten-free menus. Not that hungry? Enjoy drinks while you watch the sunset. Now I’m starting to get jealous!

Outdoor Activities in Kauai

For those who enjoy the outdoors, look into hiking the Na Pali Coast. The pali (or “cliffs) stretch along the northwest side of the island, and remain the only section of the coast unnavigable by car. You can access the Kalalau trail on the north shore where the highway ends at Ke’e beach.

Hiking Na Pali Coast

The entire stretch is 11 miles – a full day for able-bodied hikers. However, if this sounds too strenuous, the trail can easily be divided into shorter stints, all of which have their own features. The inclines and declines of the trail allow hikers to experience beaches and elevated views on the same hike. For those who are avid hikers, camping is also an option. Be sure to get a permit!  What makes this trail unique is the topography. Due to the rugged cliffs and valleys that dive straight into the ocean, you and your love will see views previously only imagined.

Relax at the Villas at Poipu Kai

And lastly, for those who crave relaxation, or for those who have spent the day exploring the island, or – really – for ANYONE – an evening spent at the Villas at Poipu Kai hot tub is just the ticket. The hot tub is placed in an intimate setting surrounded by rock formations and a waterfall. You can relax privately, talking about your future together, or just enjoy each other’s presence. After experiencing the high emotion of planning a wedding, there may be nothing that sounds more “honeymoon-esque” than this.
