May is coming to an end which means summer is just around the corner! If you are wondering how to make the most of your summer vacation in Kauai, check out this year’s Kauai Summer Fun Guide for Families. It is chock-full of great ideas!
The Kauai Summer Fun Guide is an excellent resource for parents. Take it from me, as a Poipu Beach seal, I make it a point to observe families on the shore. I also have little pups of my own, and, like you, my lady seal and I want to make sure our little ones don’t waste away their summer in front of the TV or sunbathing on the beach. Kids (and pups!) need structure, even on vacation.
As you browse through the Kauai Summer Fun Guide, you’ll find an array of options. If your kids play sports, check out the Basketball (June 15-19) and Volleyball (July 20-24) camps or the Lihue Sports Camp (M-F, 9:00am-noon). Some camps last all day for a few days (Basketball and Volleyball, etc) and some are only for a few hours every day (Lihue Sports Camp, Waimea Sports Camp, Summer Gym Fun Camp, etc.). Camps range in price and are quite reasonable. If you are looking for something a little more flexible, consider the Au’rai Kids Fitness Classes (T/Th 4:00pm-4:40pm, ages 4-11). Just $5 to drop in! It’s a great way to break up the day and get some exercise.
There are also other categories such as Water Activities. Again, some activities have flexible schedules (swim lessons, canoe paddling program, etc.) and others are larger commitments like the Sea Scout Decisive that takes teenagers 14 years and up on a week long cruise circumnavigating Kauai and Ni’ihau. What an adventure!
For the animal lovers in your family, consider the Critter Camp (June 8-12, 22-26, July 13-17, 20-24; 9:00am-3:00pm) that introduces kids to animals and gives them hands on experiences in order to help them learn how to show respect for and interact with animals.
And for those creative minds in your family, Kauai offers theater camps such as Hawaii Children’s Theatre Summer Stars that is putting on Alice in Wonderland Jr this summer. Kids participate for two days and put together a lovely production the whole family will enjoy (Rising Stars: June 15- July 16, 8:00am-12:00pm and Summer Stars: June 9th-July 11th, 1:00pm-5:00pm – Gala Performance for both on July 16th)
But that’s not all! There are many more activities and camps to choose from! If you don’t see something above that interests you or your family, read through the entire Kauai Summer Fun Guide. You’re bound to find something that will enhance your family vacation and help you make memories and foster creativity you can bring home with you. Check it out today!
