Hurricane Iselle and its trailing system, Hurricane Julio (upgraded from a tropical storm), are closing in on Kauai and the other Hawaiian islands this week and weekend. Though neither hurricane is particularly large in magnitude, their collective strength is predicted to cause much damage. Heavy rain, strong winds, flooding, and power outages are to be expected. According to NPR, historically, hurricanes are quite rare on the Hawaiian islands. Still, meteorologists expect these strong storms to hit Hawaii and are warning those living on and visiting the islands to prepare themselves.
Guests at the Villas at Poipu Kai (and anyone in the surrounding area) are instructed to purchase food and water, avoid the beaches, and stay inside as much as possible. Strong winds are unpredictable and pose an ongoing dangerous threat.
