Beach Review: Kalapaki Beach – the perfect balance of sport and leisure

One of the biggest issues that my lady seal and I face when planning swimming excursions for the little pups is how to keep all of them entertained. As they grow, they are interested in different activities and different levels of adventure. Where do you find a place that caters to such diverse needs and interests? My answer? Kalapaki Beach – this place can’t be beat!. Let me tell you why.

KalapakiFirst of all, Kalapaki is located on an harbor of the east shore that is partially protected by a break wall. “Partial” is the key word here. The large break wall creates calm tide conditions that make the water safe for swimming and stand-up paddle boarding. However, the waves are still large enough in some areas to allow for boogie boarding and beginner surfing. Kayaking, sailing, going on a catamaran cruise, snorkeling around the reef, or simply sunbathing (my personal favorite pastime) are all options are your disposal as well. Hungry? Beachfront restaurants are at your disposal. Your family will never run out of things to do!

CaptureSecondly, the amenities and convenience of Kalapaki make coming to the beach a breeze (no pun intended). Parking for the beach is available on the top level of the Marriott parking structure. Forgot a picnic? No problem, the Kalapaki Beach Hut has you covered. For breakfast or lunch, the accessibility is ideal. Take a look at their menu. Close by, you can easily find athletic clubs, beach volleyball equipment available for rent, and restaurants with live bands whose music drifts down the shore. Even from the water we can enjoy it! (other activities available listed here)

kalapaki2Lastly, this beach is peaceful. If you are looking for a restful day where your kids are entertained and you can enjoy a book in peace and quiet, this beach is for you. Just don’t tell anyone else about it – we want to keep it that way!
